Writing opportunities in January 2015

What better way to start a writerly New Year than to send out some submissions. There are quite a few opportunities listed below - all open in January 2015. And, for competitions, see our competitions page. Happy reading and writing through 2015 from the Garden Room Writers.

North West Words - hurry, hurry, the deadline for submissions to issue 3 is 01st January 2015. An online magazine seeking poetry, short story (max 2000 words), non-fiction (max 800 words), flash fiction (max 500 words) and jpegs of photography/art. For more details see here 

  
BBC Radio 4 Opening Lines Submission - short stories can be submitted between 05th January and 13th February. The 3 chosen stories will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in the summer of 2015. More details and last year's winning stories here 

Southword - submissions of poetry and prose in English open in mid-January 2015. See  here 

Number Eleven - online journal, accepts short and flash fiction. See more details here

The Weary Blues -  online journal, accepts poetry, short fiction, visual art and photography, see  here

Roadside Fiction -  an online magazine, they like wild, rude, amusing, outrageous yet realistic stories that draw on real life experiences. Fiction only, 500-2,500 words. For more details, stories and themes see  here

Irish Independent, New Irish Writing - open submission (open to Irish, or Irish resident writers), publishes a short story and poetry monthly in the Saturday edition of the paper. Publication leads to a Hennessy award nomination. See further details here

Burning Bush 2 - mostly publishes poetry, and some flash fiction  (max. 500 words). It is published twice a year, current deadline 14th February 2015, see details here

Spontaneity magazine -  write a piece of work which responds to work in a past issue of the magazine - poetry, flash or short fiction. See more details here

The Bohemyth - monthly online journal, accepts submissions 01st-23rd of each month - poetry, fiction, essay, and photography. See more details here

RTE Radio Sunday Miscellany - open submission of short essay scripts 700/50 words in length. Podcasts of the past radio shows are available here   For further submission details see here
