Linenhall Library - a Writers' Festival and A Short Story Competition

The Linenhall Library, Belfast is certainly doing its bit for writers with a festival in May and a writing competition currently accepting submissions. Wouldn't it be a treat to walk through these magnificent doors?

Writers on Writers Festival 2014 - this looks really interesting, and it's free entry (but you do need to make a reservation). Monday 12th- Thursday 15th May - workshops, talks and debates. It features Sinead Morrissey, Glenn Patterson, Martin Lynch, Anne Devlin, Deirdre Cartmill, Dan Gordon, Martin Mooney and Jo Egan. For further details of events see here

Michael McLaverty Short Story Award 2014  - the biennial short story competition returns again this year. The deadline is 30th June 2014, maximum 3,000 word stories, and it is judged by Bernard MacLaverty and Ann Tannahill. There is impressive prize money on offer too. For more details see here and here  So, start writing.  Open to Irish writers only (Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland).
