Some Upcoming Writing Deadlines

So there's Spring in your step now, and you want to send out all those lovely finished stories or poems. Here are some ideas for magazines and competitions that are currently seeking submissions.

The Stinging Fly - a literary journal that publishes three times a year. Thomas Morris has just been appointed the new editor, see his editorial statement here . It publishes poetry, flash, short  story, reviews and essay see here 

Southword - twice yearly ezine, open for poetry and short stories (3,000 word max) in English or Irish until 18th March 2014 see here

Wordlegs -   ezine published three times annually, seeks poetry, flash (500 word max) and short story (2,500 max) by 31st March 2014. See here 

The Bohemyth - an ezine that publishes poetry, short story (2,000 word max), flash fiction, and photography monthly. It issues on 7th of each month and  takes submissions 1-23rd of the previous month see here  

Burning Bush 2 - a twice yearly ezine that publishes flash fiction (500 word max) and poetry. Deadline 1st May 2014 see here 

The Incubator Journal - a brand new quarterly ezine seeking flash (1,000 words max) or  short story (3,000 words max) by the deadline 31st March 2014. See here

Galway University Hospital Arts Trust Poetry Competition 2014 - deadline 7th March 2014. For further details see here at Poetry Ireland website. 

Molly Keane Creative Writing Award 2014 - deadine 14th March 2014, short story max. 2,000 words, and free to enter. Further details and an entry form here

Cardiff International Poetry Competition 2014 - deadline 14th March 2014, for more details and to read past prize winning poems see here

Mslexia Women's Short Story Competition 2014 - deadline 17th March, female entrants only. Max words 2,200, judge Janice Galloway, see details here

Fish Poetry Prize 2014 - deadline 31st March 2014. Judge Ruth Patel, for further details see here

The Bath Short Story Award - deadline 31st March 2014, short stories of 2,200 words or less. Shortlist judge Lucy Luck of Lucy Luck Associates Literary Agency. See details here

Short Fiction 2014 International Short Story Prize - enter 1 short story for £5, or, 2 short stories for £10 plus receive a free copy of the next issue of the excellent Short Fiction. Deadline for entries is 31st March 2014, and the judge is Gerard Donovan. Stories must be previously unpublished, and 5,000 words or under - for further details see here

Thresholds Feature Writing Competition 2014: run by the short story forum Thresholds. There are two categories of entry sought both requiring 1,500 words or less - Author Profile see examples here and We Recommend see here  The winning and shortlisted entires will be published on the Thresholds website. Deadline 02nd April 2014. For more details see  here

Bristol Short Story Prize 2014 - deadline 30th April 2014. Further details here
