The Write to Belong: finding your place
in the family of things
Saturday 30th November, 2013 10.00-4.30
The title of this creative writing workshop is based on the last lines of Mary Oliver’s poem,
Wild Geese:
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
This poem
is one of many which explore the deep human need to belong to a
community of like-minded people and to the natural world. Reading and
writing poetry enhances our capacity to understand
ourselves and empathise and connect with others. In this workshop, we
will read and create words about belonging.
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
